OF THE UNITED STATES ACHIEVEMENT ASSURED. COMMENTS ON PRESIDENT’S " SPEECH. (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) WASHINGTON, January 7. The Director of the Office of Production Management, Mr Knudsen, said: “The United States will produce all the planes, guns, tanks and ships President Roosevelt requested. The President has set our goal. We have raised our sights to meet it.” Mr Henry Ford said the achievement of Mr Roosevelt’s programme was not only assured, but meant the end of the war in 1943. Mr Wendell Willkie said: “it is a magnificent programme. It is to be hoped that Mr Roosevelt will immediately reorganise his Government and policies to the end that these accomplishments can be made possible. They cannot by the present organisation and administrative methods.” The Treasury announced the purchase of an additional 20,000,000 dollars’ worth of gold from Russia to give the Soviet dollar assets to purchase goods and services in the United States in addition to materials obtained under the Lend-Lease Act.
