SHEEP DOG TRIALS
OPEN & MAIDEN LONGHEAD EVENTS. MASTERTON COLLIE CLUB'S MEETING. The Masterton Collie Club’s annual sheep dog trials which commenced yesterday on Mr George Shaw’s property, Te Ore Ore, were continued today in bitterly cold weather. Despite the keen wind and showers of sleet and snow the standard set by the competitors was up to the usual high level. Entries are greater than those received last year. Pongaroa and Alfredton competitors are well represented. Under the capable management of the secretary (Mr C. J. Macdonald) and his committee the events are being run off smoothly and up to time. Mi’ J. Borlase, of Nelson, is the judge. Keen interest is being taken in the proceedings by a good attendance of spectators. A ladies’ committee provided an excellent luncheon. Results, up to the time of going to press, are as follows: Longhead: Mr M. J. Wilton’s Bessie Wallace, 431 points, 1; Mr A. Chorley's Bob Wallace. 43 points. 2; Mr G. Thomson’s Speed. 421 points, 3; Mr C. J. Macdonald's Jean, 411 points, 4; Mr J F. Wilsher’s Roy, 41 points. 5. Maiden. Longhead: Mr Bern Wallace’s Speed, 361 points, 1; Mr C. J. Hay’s Glen. .351 points. 2: Mr H. Cameron’s Ben, 34 points, 3; Mr R. D Cameron's Tyne. 26 points, 4.
