CONDUCT OF THE WAR
JOINT ALLIED COUNCIL SUGGESTED STATEMENT BY MR ATTLEE. EXISTING ARRANGEMENTS ADEQUATE. (British Official Wireless.) (Received This Day, 11.5 a.m.) RUGBY. August 6. The Lord Privy Seal (Mr Attlee), replying in the House of Commons to a question whether the Government would consider setting up a Joint Allied Council for the prosecution of the war, including the Governments of Czechoslovakia, Poland, Norway, Holland and Belgium, said the existing arrangements for co-operation and consultation between the British Government and other Governments and organisations fighting against the enemy were fully adequate for dealing with all questions. In reply to another question, Mr Attlee gave an assurance that the Government would not enter into any permanent obligations on the Continent of Europe without the fullest consultation with the Dominion Governments, with which it had maintained and would continue to maintain the closest touch on all aspects of foreign policy.
