Gunner Leonard Sayer, junr., of the Second Echelon, youngest son of Mr and Mrs' L. Sayer, of Masonic Street, Masterton. has been on a visit to his parents. Mr W. Barr, of the sub-editorial staff of the Melbourne “Herald,” has flown to England to take up a position on the London staff of the “Sun-Herald.” Mr Barr is a son of Mr John Barr, formerly connected with the Press in Wellington, and a nephew of Mr W. Barr, formerly of the Public Trust Office,Wellington. The Rev R. F. Judson, of the Popotunoa Presbyterian Church, South Otago, has enlisted with the Medical Corps, and expects to go into camp next month.

Ambrose Manning, the last surviving principal of the "Sign of the Cross” company, is dead, a London cablegram reports. Ambrose Manning, whose father, John Manning, was also an actor, first appeared on the stage at the age of seven in a pantomime at the Old Grecian Theatre, where later he was a comedian. From the early 1880’s till the death of Wilson Barrett in 1904 he was associated with the latter’s company, which played "The Sign of the Cross” and a number of other plays.

The death has occurred at Levin of Mr Ernest John Knight, a member of a well-known Wellington, family, al the age of 65 years. Born at Lower Hutt in 1874, Mr Knight was the fourth son of the late Mr and Mrs Joseph Knight, and a grandson of one of Wellington's pioneer families, who took up their residence in Wellington in 1840. He engaged in farming at an early age at Lower Hutt, and later took up farming properties in Taranaki. Wairarapa, and Manawatu, retiring in 1924, to live at Levin. He leaves a widow, three sons, and three daughters. The sons are Frank, of the Air Force base at Hobsonville, Charles (Kuku), and Eric (Kuku); the daughters are Mrs W. F. Hodge (Papatoetoe), Mrs E. M. Harvey (Levin), and Miss Joyce Knight (Kuku).
