NEW APPOINTMENTS REV. E. J. RICH ARCHDEACON OF WAIRARAPA. PROMOTION FOR ARCHDEACON BULLOCK. Archdeacon A. L. Hansell has resigned from the position of Archdeacon of Wellington and Bishop Holland lias appointed Archdeacon Bullock, who has been Archdeacon of Wairarapa, to the vacancy. The Rev. E. J. Rich, Vicar of Masterton, has been appointed Archdeacon of Wairarapa. Archdeacon Hansell was educated at Magdalen College, Oxford, where he took his B.A. and M.A. degrees. From there he went to Duddesdon College, and was ordained by the Bishop of Oxford in 1891. His first curacy was that of Wantage, and from this position he came to New Zealand in 1899. He was vicar of Karori (1900-14), and vicar of Lower Hutt, 1914-33. He was appointed Archdeacon of Wairarapa in 1922 and Archdeacon of Wellington in 1934. He married a daughter of the late Archbishop Julius, of Christchurch. Archdeacon Bullock was educated at King’s College, London, where he took the diploma of A.S.C. (Associate of King’s College). He was ordained by the Bishop of Rochester in 1914 and was curate of All Saints, Chatham, 1914-15. He was curate of St. John the Evangelist’s, Bromley, Kent, from 1916 to 1918, and a chaplain to the New Zealand Expeditionary Force, 1918-19. He came to New Zealand as organising secretary of the Church of England Men’s Society and held that office for two years, when he was appointed Vicar of Masterton (1922). He was appointed Vicar of St. Peter’s, Wellington, in 1930, and Archdeacon of Wairarapa in 1934. He was appointed Vicar-General of the Diocese of Wellington at .the end of 1937. The Rev. E. J. Rich was al St. John’s College. Auckland, where he took the Diploma of Theology in 1915. He then went to the Great War, and on his return was ordained by the then Bishop of Wellington, the Right Rev. T. H. Sprott, 0.8. E., D.D. He became curate of St. Thomas’s, Wellington South, then vicar of Berhampore (192125), vicar of Taihape, 1925-30), and vicar of Masterton (1930).
