TENNIS CHAMPIONSHIPS SINGLES TO REV J. D. FROUD. NORTH ISLAND DEFEATS SOUTH AT CRICKET. The New Zealand Bible Class Union’s annual tennis championships were concluded at the Wairarapa College tennis courts yesterday. The senior championship was won by the Rev J. D. Froud (Christchurch) who beat T. Church (Lower Hutt) in the final event 6/2, 6/4, The doubles were won by the Rev J. D. Froud and L. A. Mills (Johnsonville) who beat B. Boyes (Johnsonville) and D. Sheffield (Helensville), 6/1, 6/5.
At 2 o'clock an exciting cricket match was played between teams representing the North and South Islands. North Island won by 6 wickets. The South team made 109 in the first innings (T. Scott 50, C. Woodward 35). Bowling for the North team, Staub took 5 wickets for 27 and the Rev R. M. Goudie. 2 for 30. The North team scored 125 for the. loss of 4 wickets/ (the Rev R. M. Goudie 31 not out, D. Pope 19, Aikman 19, R. Scott 13). In the late afternoon a field of 20 started on a short cross-country race over the Wairarapa College training course. The results were as follow: Senior, the Rev R. M. Goudie (Petone) 1; P. Piesse (Gisborne) 2; E. M. Gray (Petone) 3; C. Mac Kay (Lyall Bay) 4. Junior: W. Watters (Eastbourne) 1; J. Gully (Johnsonville) 2; G. Logie (Eastbourne) 3; M. Bunn (Ngaruawahia) 4. The assistant camp commandant, the Rev J. D. W. Raine, of Ngaruawahia, arrived at the camp yesterday’. The camp will attend Holy Communion at St Matthew's at 8 o’clock Sunday’ morning, and will take part in a Procession of Witness at the Evensong. The preacher will be the Rt Rev G. V. Gerard. M.C.. M.A.. Bishop of Waiapu. The services will be attended by members of the girls camp.
