The Associated Press of America Warsaw correspondent reports that ten were killed and several wounded when a German bomb struck a Girl Guides’ canteen, near the East Railway Station. Bomb splinters struck a train of Red Cross carriages carrying wounded from the Western battlefields, but did not harm the occupants. Sixteen planes were engaged in the raid, to which spirited anti-aircraft gunfire replied. The wardens reported that three German planes were shot down. The United Press Warsaw correspondent states that flames were, stabbing the sky at dusk from two railway stations, one north and the other west of the city, as a result of incendiary bombs. All available firemen have been mustered and stretcher-bearers are struggling through streets littered with broken glass. WORK OF THE BOMBERS CITY burning in several SECTIONS. Many planes participated. The United Press representative counted thirty. The city is burning in several sections. A full count of casualties will be impossible for hours. RUMANIA’S ARMY NOW EXCEEDS A MILLION. FURTHER MEN CALLED UP. (Received This Day, 11.25 a.m.) BUCHAREST, September 4. Rumania has called up 250,000 more men. The strength of the army now exceeds a million. REMAINING NEUTRAL. FRIENDSHIP WITH POLAND. (Received This Day, 11.40 a.m.) BUCHAREST, September 4. Rumania is remaining neutral as her friendship with Poland included no staff talks, except so far as they concerned possible aggression by Russia. JEWISH HELP MEN & WOMEN IN PALESTINE REGISTERING. Jewish Agency in Palestine has announced the registration of all Jewish men and women from eighteen to fifty for national service in assistance of the British army, if required.
