PETROL SUPPLIES
INSTITUTION OF LICENSING SCHEME. RUSH AT MASTERTON POST OFFICE. A special staff is engaged at the Masterton Post Office in dealing with applications from motorists for the purchase of petrol supplies, following on the emergency regulations issued with a view to conserving stocks of petrol in New Zealand. The position briefly is that until midnight on Wednesday motorists are able to get their supplies in the normal manner, except that private car owners are restricted to two gallons at any one time. After midnight on Wednesday, petrol will only be supplied to holders of licences and will not be available to private car owners. The position in regard to private cars may be revised later. Licences are obtainable to approved applicants at any post office. No time limit is set in which it is necessary to make application for licences. By a typographical error it was made to appear in yesterday’s issue that licences had to be obtained immediately, but such is not the case. Motorists may apply at any time during Post Office hours to suit their convenience, though, of course, the position is largely governed by the fact that no petrol will be supplied after midnight on Wednesday except to holders of licences.
