Present from H.H Aga Khan

DHOTI WILL CARRY DUKE OF KENT’S COLOURS IN AUSTRALIA THREE-YEAR-OLD SHOULD GIVE OPPOSITION STIFF TEST (BY “CARBINE.”) The Duke of Kent’s colours in Australia will be carried by Dhoti, who should be capable- of testing the best icf horses in that country. He is a three-year-old, and last season was one of the best performers of his age. Bred by H.H. Aga Khan, he had three races at two years and was undefeated. At that age he won a total,of £3,557. The Aga Khan has presented him to the Duke to race in Australia.

Dhoti’s form this season has not been quite up to expectations, but there is no doubt he is a class racehorse and he is bred on great lines. Few horses of his age and class have been imported to Australia, and in the changed conditions he might very well develop into an outstanding performer. Many horses bred in England have improved almost beyond recognition when they have acclimatised in Australia. Dhoti is a chestnut colt of the No 2 family. He was an early April foal. He is by Dastur, a half-brother to undefeated Bahram, out of Tricky Aunt by Son-in-Law out of Rectify, a halfbrother to the successful Australian sire, Tressady. Rectify is by William the Third (son of St Simon) out of Simplify, by Arklow, a brother to unbeaten Ormonde, one of the greatest of all English racehorses. Dastur is by Solario (great racehorse and sire) out of Friar s Daughter, by Friar Marcus (son of Cicero), out of Garron Lass by Roseland (son of William the Third and Electric Rose, a great grand-daughter of Electric Light, dam of Bill of Portland} out of Concertina by St Simon. Concertina was the dam of the famous mare, Plucky Liege, dam of Sir Gallahad 111, Bull Dog, Admiral Drake, and Boi Roussel. Solario is by Gainsborough out of Sun-Worship by Sundridge out of Doctrine, dame of Document, whose son, Ornamentation, is the sire of the champion jumper, Pooley Bridge. Doctrine was by Ayrshire out of Axiom, a daughter of Peter (son of Hermit) and Electric Light. -As a two-year-old Dhoti was rated by the handicapper to be only 61b inferior to Blue Peter, winner of the Derby, and classed as one of the greatest colts to win the Epsom classic. In the Free Handicap Blue Peter was allotted 9.3 and Dhoti 8.11.

Dhoti last season won the Granby Stakes, the First Spring. Stakes at Newmarket, and the Chasham Stakes at Ascot. On each occasion he was an odds-on favourite. He won his races at Newmarket by five lengths and three lengths, carrying a penalty in the second event. .At Ascot he beat 20 opponents.

A horse of medium size, he is good looking, and has excellent action. The Aga Khan had a number of good class two-year-olds last season and Dhoti was regarded as the pick of the lot.
