CARTERTON
WOMEN'S INSTITUTE. MEETING OF GARDEN CIRCLE. (“Times-Age” Special.) The Carterton Womens Institute’s Garden Circle held its monthly meeting on Thursday afternoon at Miss O. Wolters’s rooms, Belvedere Street. There was a very good attendance over which Mrs Pink (president) presided. Mrs Munn, of Masterton, demonstrated with the making of miniature rock gardens, at the conclusion of which she was warmly applauded and accorded a hearty vote of thanks. She was presented with a shoulder spray. The competition for the making of shoulder sprays was won by Mrs W. Williams. Mrs R. Nix was second and Mrs J. McKenzie third. The prize for the best bloom in a garden went to. Mrs W. Williams, Mrs M. F. King being second and Mrs S. Kelly third. In the competition for the best shrub, Mrs J. McKenzie was first, Mrs C. Savill second and Mrs M. F. King third. Fall of Snow on Ranges. There was a heavy fall of snow on the ranges yesterday. .CARD PARTY AND DANCE. GATHERING AT CLAREVILLE. A most enjoyable card ’ tournament and dance was held in the Clareville Hall last night there being a good attendance. The arrangements were complete in every detail and reflected the greatest credit on those responsible. The prizes were won as follow: Ladies, Mrs E. James 1, Mrs E. Allen and L. Humphries 'tie 2, divided the prize); consolation, Mrs Mellish. Men: Mrs Morris (acting), 1; Mrs C. Daysh (acting) 2; consolation, Mr W. Anderson. The music for the dancing was supplied by Mr J. Edwards, and Messrs E. James and S. Fisher were the M.’sC. A dainty supper was provided.
