GREYTOWN

CROQUET CLUB MEETING. TOURNAMENT ARRANGED. (“Times-Age” Special.) A meeting of the Croquet Club took place yesterday in the Greytown Memorial Park Kiosk. ' ■ ■■ • ; Mrs R. Vile who presided, asked members to stand in silence out of respect to the memory of a valued member (Mrs Slater). It was decided to hold a half-hour tournament on April 14, play to commence at 10 a.m. GREYTOWN SCHOOL COMMITTEE. MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly meeting of the Greytown School Committee was held last night. There were present Messrs H. G. Carter (chairman), F. Dennes (treasurer), E. Graham, J. Herod, H. C. Trotman, W. G. K. Wiggins and Mrs Knell (secretary). Messrs Maloney and Sheddon were also present. The chairman .extended a hearty welcome to Mr Sheddon, the newlyappointed headmaster. The dental nurse, Miss Barber, wrote stating, that she would commence duty at the Greytown Clinic on April 13. Permission was granted the Wairarapa Boys and Girls’ Agricultural Clubs to hold the annual meeting in the school on Monday, April 17. The acting-headmaster, Mr G. S. Maloney, reported the following roll numbers: Primary 97, Secondary 41. During the last week in March the attendance had dropped considerably, due to influenza. A bottle drive had been in operation and to date approximately 6000 bottles had been collected. The asphalt around the school was in a bad condition and this is to be reported to the board for immediate attention. Mr Sheddon was appointed delegate to the Agricultural Club. The committee expressed their appreciation of the work done by Mr G. S. Maloney during his two months as acting-headmaster. FIRE BRIGADE. ONE-MAN CHAMPIONSHIP. The one-man championship for the Memorial Cup resulted as follows:-;— Foreman B. Workman 58sec, 1; Fireman K. Langford, 62 3-*ssec, 2; Fireman G. Gray, 63 3-ssec, 3.
