CARNIVAL ATTRACTION

PRESENTATION OF UP-TO-DATE REVUE. Many attractive features are to be presented in Masterton on the occasion of Carnival Week, to be held during the week ending March 18, in aid of the Masterton Beautifying Society and Y.M.C.A. One of the main, attractions will be the staging of a modern revue, which will be the largest and most spectacular production probably ever attempted in this town. The town is fortunate in having two very able and enthusiastic men, who have had many years’ experience in professional and amateur productions. Mr F. E. McCallum will supervise the production, and Mr Tom Wynne will be in charge of the stage management, continuity, etc. Miss Dorothy Tate will be the ballet mistress in charge of the training of thirty to forty girls, carefully chosen for their ability and stage appearance. Mis Tate, who is wellknown to Wairarapa audiences for the perfection of her dancing, and instruction, has received tuition from Leon Woizoiksky when the Russian Ballet was in New Zealand. She is interested in stage production as a whole, and intends to further her studies in London. It is estimated that members of the company, including technicians, will number over one hundred and include well-known players from various local societies, groups and clubs and many individuals who are specialists in their own particular branch and form of entertainment.

Numerous offers and suggestions have already been received by people eager to help in a good cause, but the producers wish to leave no avenue unexplored and would be pleased if those who possess individual talent in any direction and would be willing to give an audition or exhibition would communicate with the hon general organiser, Mr John Lawson, 99 Pownall Street, or telephone 2482.

The work of selection and rehearsal will commence early in January, and as there is a surprising range of very creditable talent in Masterton it is confidently expected that the production will reach a high standard.
