FEARS IN TANGANYIKA
SEPARATION FROM EMPIRE OPPOSED SITUATION MORE CRITICAL THAN IN 1936. MR CHAMBERLAIN’S POLICY CAUSES UNEASINESS. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright. (Received This Day, 1.15 p.m.) LONDON. October 7. The “Daily Telegraph’s,’’ Nairobi correspondent says the Kenya legislator, Lord Francis Scott, uncle of the Duchess of Gloucester, wholeheartedly supports the Tanganyika League’s pledge to resist Tanganyika’s separation from the Empire. He points out that the situation is more critical than in 1936; when he went to England in the hope of inducing the British people to appreciate the situation. Many still do not realise Tanganyika’s indispensability to the Empire but more serious than this is Mr Chamberlain’s refusal to commit himself. His policy of friendliness to Herr Hitler at all costs may entail sacrifices of East Africa in the absence of strong and timely opposition.
