The Hon W. Nash, Minister of Finance, returned to Wellington by air from the south yesterday. Mr J. J. Andrew, Opaki Road, Masterton has sufficiently recovered from his recent accident to be able to return to his home.

The Hon R. Semple, Minister of Public Works, is to open the Nelson Aerodrome today, and will return to Wellington on Monday. Mr O. H. Burford, Wanganui, has been appointed secretary of the New Plymouth High Schools’ Board.

Three candidates have been nominated for the Invercargill mayoralty. They are Messrs J. R. Hanan, deputy-mayor, Hugh Ritchie and H. J. Farrant, former councillors.

The Rt Hon M. J. Savage, Prime Minister, accompanied by the Hon P. C. Webb, Minister of Mines, travelled from Wellington to New Plymouth yesterday on the first stage of the Prime Minister’s election tour of the North Island.

Today being the fifth aniversary of the death of Mr H. E. Holland, former leader of the New Zealand Labour Party, .wreaths were laid on Mr Holland’s grave at the Boulton Street Cemetery, Wellington, on behalf of the executive of the Labour Party and by members of his family.

Mr George J. Petherick, a member of the Wellington Hospital Board, is confined to the Wellington Hospital with an attack of pneumonia. Mr Petherick was made a justice of the peace two years, before the Great War started, and is the oldest member of the Wellington Licensing Committee and the hospital board. He is also a very old and esteemed member of the Order of Rechabites. Mr Norton Francis is to be nominated for life membership of the Canterbury Chamber of Commerce. Mi’ Francis, who has been a member of the council since 1919, and an honorary member for some years, was president of the Associated Chambers of Commerce in 1936, and president of the Canterbury chamber from 1928 to 1930. The nomination, endorsed by the unanimous vote of the council of the chamber, will be considered by the annual meeting of the chamber next week. I
