Mrs I. Gordon, of Wellington, was a week-end visitor to Masterton. Miss Brenda Sedcole, of Dannevirke, is the guest of Mrs McGovern, Rangitumau. Mrs W. Barrett, of Pahiatua, has returned from a holiday spent •in Sydney. Miss Peggy Sievers, who had been the guest of her aunt, Mrs J. Broad, Upper Plain, has returned home. Mr and Mrs C. R. Andrews, of Dunedin, are the guests of Mr and Mrs H. R. Thompson, College Street, Masterton. Miss A. J. Shelton will accompany the Wairarapa basketball team to Timaru, and will be the Wairarapa delegate to the New Zealand Conference. Miss Leslie Beetham, Highmore, Masterton, has left for the south and will be the guest of Mrs W. Deans, Sandown; Darfield, for the Grand National races. At a theoretical examination held recently by the newly-formed Wairarapa branch of the New Zealand Basketball Referees’ Association, Misses
D. O’Donnell and J. Russell were successful in qualifying as New Zealand referees. A similar qualification is held by Miss R. Edwards, of Masterton. At an interval in the Wairarapa Basketball Association matches on Saturday, opportunity was taken to make a presentation to the president, Miss O. R. Sutherland. The association had some time ago elected her a life member, and Mr J. Hanley, on behalf of the girls, presented Miss Sutherland with a silver life member’s badge, engraved with a basketball and posts. In doing so he expressed the thanks of the association to Miss Sutherland for her consistent interest in the game in the Wairarapa. Miss Sutherland, in reply, spoke of the great pleasure the work and the association with the girls had given her, and took the opportunity of welcoming to Masterton basketball all the visitors, players and spectators, who were assembled.

Miss Ngaire McLaren, of Bush Gully, has returned from a short holiday in Wellington. Miss Sadie Broughton visited her home in Pahiatua over the week-end. Miss Schofield, of Hinakura, has returned from visiting her mother at Solway. Mrs W. A. McLeod and her son Norman, of Glendryneoch, are on a holiday in the South Island. ! Miss Crook, of the staff of Pain and Kershaw, Ltd., is spending a short holiday in Wellington. Miss Nancy Ussher, of Wellington, visited her home over the week-end.
