YOUNG FARMERS’ CLUBS
INTER-CLUB DEBATE WON BY CARTERTON Members of the Carterton and Greytown Young Farmers’ Clubs met in Greytown last night, to debate the question: “That the young farmer of today had more opportunities than his grandfather had, in his youth.” Mr A. H. Humphries occupied the chair, and the judges were Messrs. Jas Watson and H. McPhee. The affirmative was taken by the Carterton Club, with Messrs B. Brasell, L. Renall and M. Knutson, while the negative was taken by Greytown, with Messrs B. McKenzie, G. Humphphries and D. Gordon. It was soon obvious that Carterton members had greater experience in debate than Greytown, and it transpired later that this was Greytown’s first effort in debate. The young farmers are to be congratulated on the splendid manner in which the contest was carried out, and for the study and preparation of the subject matter. The judges awarded the Carterton Club 257 points, and Greytown, 224 points. Pride of place for individual debate, went to Mr L. Renall with 94 points out of a possible of 100;
