Pastoral Society’s Ram & Ewe Fair at Carterton.
At the Bam and Ewe Fair yesterday the attendance at Carterton was very good from all parts of the Valley, also from Wellington and the Hutt. The prices were not equal to those of former sales, but under the present circumstances as high as could have been expected—really good quality sheep realising fair prices, but for inferior and aged rams there was very little demand. Mr D Macs Master took the premier position for the day, bis stock bringing better prices than those of other vendors. Two tooth Lincolns ranged in price from L2 16s to L 6 7s 6d ; four tooth and full mouth ditto, from L 3 3s to L 4 10s. Mr Stuckey's Lincolns were next in public demand, realising from L2 5s to L 3 15s. Mr Tbreikeld’s English Leioeaters attracted considerable attention, and were favourably commented upon. They had been recently dipped and the dip not being dry somewhat deteriorated from their good appearance; the prices of these averaged from LB 16s 63.
Some pure bred Romney Marsh (2 tooth), the property of Mr C. Pharazyn were sold at from 11s to 19s. Some Shropshire Downs of Messrs Biddiford’s fetched from L2 to 30s, Romney Marsh (Biddifoid's) from 15s to LI 7s. A pen eifive by the same vendors brought L 3 each. Some Cotswolds (purebred) two tooth, belonging to Mr Reynolds ranged from L2 2s 6d to L2 7s 63. A line of 4 tooth Lincoln ewes the property of Mr A. McMaster brought 10s each. These lots and some inferior classes which did not realise anything little good prices were all disposed ol by Mr F. H. Wood, auctioneer of Greytown and Carterton.
