Featherston School.
The closing of this school for the holidays 4 on Friday was celebrated by tbs distribution ■ of prises. There was a (air sprinkling of parent* present, who manifested not a little interest in the proceedings. Mr Benton, a member of the Committee, acted as chairman. The scholars being in excellent spirits, sang a few songs under the lendership of Mr Harper, the first assistant. Addresses upon education ware given by the headmaster, Mr Banting, and Mr Benton. The children of tho infant department, under the guidance of Mise E. Craig, assisted by Mise £. Gundy, gave much ■ pleasure by their drill exercise and singing. Each child received a Christmas card —one, Ethel O’Neale, obtained a ptiae for good attendance.

Standard n—For]best pass, Lillian MaoSbans; for attendance, Wilmore Abbott, Maude Wilkinson,jsßortha; Keys, Ernest O’Neale, and Ernest Bobertaon. Standard 111—For superior pan—William Bunny, Herbert Willis, and Oolfriet locaton* son ; for attendance, Kenneth But, Hector Urquhart, Mabel bpaokman, William White* man, Fred O'Neale, Jessie Robertson, Arthur Vilea, Emily Wonley, Mary Worsley, James Burt, Stafford Morphy, George Yule, Margaret Morphy, Oraoe Candy. Mr Herpes’s prise for genual proficiency, Grace M. Monckton. Standard IV—For best pass, Lean Banting ; for attendance, Annie Morphy, Albert Yiles, Augustus Abbott, Mary O’Neala, Non MaoShane, Clauds Spackman, Henry Murphy. Mr Toogood's (special prise for rseitation,,. Susan Toogood. Standard V—For beat pan Kathleen Willie ; teacher's jpriae for gsoeral proficiency, Clara MaeSbane ; for atteodaoee, Nellie Biddiok, Bessie Donald, Ellery Toogood, Oraoe Yolo, Charles Bead, and Waller vilea.
Standard Vl—Fog beet peas, Robert Yale; for attendance, Donald Bobertaon, Isabel Vilas. Teacher's prise for general proficiency, Wallace Smith, Bertram Bonny. Mr w. Bock’■ epeoial prise lor English composition wae carried off by Flora Banting; Mr Book, who adjudged thu prize, considered Ellery Toogood a good second. In the choice of the most popular girl, there was soma keen competition, Maude Gundy, having a majority of only one vote, received the prize, the Girls' Annual. Oharlee Burt outstripped all competitors by 90 votes, and was therefore declared the most popular boy of tbe school. He received the ptiae accordingly, the Boys' Annual.
