Carterton Bazaar.

The Assembly Booms at Carterton presented a busy picture yesterday, on the occasion of ,the Wesleyan Bazaar there. From early in the morning a number of workers were employed, under the direction of Me W. Gatt, erecting the Christmas Tree, fixing the tables, &0., and by noon the nimble lingers of the ladies had these filled with articles of various texture, color aud value. There were four fancy goods stalls, and refreshment, vegetable, flower, and live stock stalls. A valuable chaff cutting machine formed a stall by itself. Then there was the Tree, and of course the Bran Pie. We tried hard to get the names of the ladies who served, but could not. Everyoue in the congregation appeared to be employed. Every way we turned we were met by a pair of laughing eyes, aud a doll or u diess or a bracket or a portrait,'or something, and in despair we put our note book in our pocket, But one lady, Mrs Charles Bobinson, the secretary, was evidently in authorit, for again aud again we heard the advice of " Captain Bobinson ’’ asked. What with the local Brass Band, which played several selections very nicely, and the peals of laughter continually filling the room, it was a merry time. It wae a cheap sixpence worth to go in and watch the gay proceedings. There was no auction sale, nor was there very much reduction in the price of the goods made, at the end, it being thought better to keep the things for another effort of the kind than to sacrifice them. Much interest was shown in , Ue of the poll,” many waiting to hear it declared, aud wneu U Jounced that the day's takings amounted to *-? i. three hearty cheers were given. It is estimated that by the three efforts neatly £IOO will be cleared. We congratulate our friends on then success.
