Entertainment at Greytown.
The Greytnwn Amateur Dramatic Society on Monday night gave an entertainment to a rather limited audience. The first part of tbi proceedings consisted of several vocal selections rendered by Messrs Black, Cox, and Bowers. Mrs Wood played some excellent selections on the piano, and Messrs Barnard and Campbell recited some amusing pieces to the evident enjoyment of the listeners. All the performers were much applauded, and some excuses were made for some that were unable to attend on account of the bad weather. After a few minutes interval the farce, "The Smoked Miser,” which the. company have played before, was reproduced, and went well with the exception of one little mistake which caused some amusement to the audience. The irrepressible strong lunged bahy was represented, and by its vociferous melody, nearly drowned the voices of the actors. At any rate public opinion freely expressed after the pefortnanoe inclined to the fact that the Greytown amateurs are progressing well with their pursuits, and only require practice to be as near perfect as amateurs can hope to be. As G.i.-a Sowthistle, Mr F. F. Maxton was a worthy representative. The miser was in good hands with Mr Barnard, and Spiderlegs (Mr Campbell) kept the audience in a continual state of merriment. The amateurs will shortly reproduce " Ten Nights in a Bar Boom,” and with the same caste, consequently the public will be assured (hat it will be ably put on the stage.
