THE DISTRESS IN ENGLAND. A CHRISTIAN RELIEF COMBINATION. WAR SPEECHES IN THE AUSTROHUNGARIAN DELEGATIONS. Rangoon, November 17. News Las been received from Upper Barmah that the Dacoita are displaying great activity. They have made repeated attacks on the British columns, and during the engagements several British officers were k lied. Berlin, November 17. The health of the Emperor William is causing bis medical advisers much anxiety. His Majesty is at present suffering from a severe cold. Vienna, November 15. The Austrian and Hungarian Delegations assembled yesterday for the transaction of business. The principal topic of discussion in both Assemblies was the present crisis in Eastern Europe, and the tone of most of the speeches was of a warlike character. Both Count Von Taafe, the President of the Austrian Council, and Herr Tisza, the Hungarian Premier in their iuanguial addresses strongly urged the necessity of upholding the interests of the Austro-Hungarian Empire in the Balkan Peninsula at whatever sacrifice. London, November 19. At a meeting of the Russian War Council, held in St Petersburg!!, it was decided not to occupy Bulgaria. It is rumored that a Conference of the Powers is to bo held to consider the Bulgarian question. It is reported that Brennan is asking for £IOO,OOO for the patent rights of his torpedo. Obituary—Ex-President Arthur, November 20. The distress existing amongst the laboring classes is attracting a large share of attention. The Bishops of London. Rochester, and Bedford, Cardinal Manning, the Rev C. H. Spurgeon and the Rev G. H. Reany, Cougregationaliat minister, have issued a joint manifesto, in which a scheme is suggested for providing employment for the poor during the winter months. W. G. George, the well-known English pedestrian, will leave England for Sydney via America on Saturday. Mr H; M. Stanley, the African explorer, intends to visit Australia in February next. Sydney, November 19. Meetings of the members of the Bar and also of solicitors have been held to-night, when it was resolved to request Mr Julian Salamans to withdraw his resignation of the Chief Justiceship. Mr Salaman’s resignation is now under the consideration of the Government. New Zealand wheat is selling at 4s Id per bushel; New Zealand oats, 2s 4d ; maize, per 561b, 3s 4d. Potatoes, for which there is no sale, are quoted at 50s per ton. Adelaide, November 19. Wheat is selling at from 5s to 5s Id per bushel ; Adelaide flour, town brands, £ll 5s to £ll 15s per ton ; country brands, £lO 12s 6d to £lO 15s per ton.
