' | ’HE Examination for THIRTEEN Scholarships, tenable for 2years from Ist Janaary, 1887, offered by the Education Board, will be held simultaneously in the Training College, Wellington, ami in the Greytown School, on WEDNESDAY, the Ist December, at 10 a.m. The examination is open to all children whether they are receiving their instruction in Public Schools or not, under 15 years of age on the Ist day of December nextThe names, ages, and addresses of ill intending competitors should be forwarded to the Secretary not later’ th in the 25th NOVEMBER. The scholarships are thus appropriate 1 : Six scholarships of £ls annual val ie, open to all children attend: ig any school in the City of Wellington. Two scholarships of £3O annual va’ue, open to all children attend ng any school in the Wairarnpa district. Two scholarships of £3oannual va’ ie, open to all children attend ng any school in the Welling mn Country District. Also, three scholarships of -15 annual value, open to all r.ildren in any school in the Vollington Educational District. These scholarships are given subjec: to diligence and good conduct on the par; of the scholars, and the regulations conta ; ed in the addendum to clause 51 of “ :he Education Act, 1877,” which reads at. follows ; —“ The successful competitoi for any such Scholarships, shall receive ny amount of his or her Scholarship on' v so long as he or she shall continue his oiler education at any School or Educati nal Institution under the control of the Board at which the higher branch i of education are taught, but if there I no such school or institution in the die l rict where the holder of the Schola; hip resides, then at such school subject to inspection by a Public School Inspee .or, as the Board may approve of.” The subjects of examination are I hose prescribed for Standard VI by Or«b r in Council, of date 24th September, 1-S7B. but no scholarships will be awarded unless two-thirds of the possible number of marks are obtained. Each scholarship is tenable up to the age of 16 years, and its value is equivalent to the Tuition Fees at the College or Girl’s High School. A “ Caledonian ” Scholarship for Boys, tenable at the Wellington College. 3. The “ Duthie ” Scholarship for Boys, tenable at the Wellington College. 4. The “ Mackay ” Scholarship for Boys, tenable at the Wellington College. Nos. 1, 2, and o are open to the chib dren of all parents who are members of the Caledonian Society of Wellington, and are tenable for two years, subject to passing the required examinations. The annual value of each is equal in amount to the Tuition Fees at the College or Hisrh So 11001. The •• Mackay " Scholarship is open to ALL Boys whose parents reside at a distance of not less than TEX miles from the city of Wellington. The winner will be entitled to free Board and Education at the Wellington College for two years, subject to passing the required examinations. The limits of age. subjects of examination. time and place of examination, will be the same as for Education Board Scholarships; but no winner of a Galedouiau Society Scholarship will be allowed to bold an Education Board or a Primary Scholarship at the same time.
