Imports and Exports.
The Customs returns for the quarter ending 30th September, show the total value of imports to have'beenj L 1,981,768, as compared with L 2,186,943 in the September quarter of {IBBS. The values at the chief porta last quarter were Auckland L 619.797, as against L 580.414 in the corresponding quarter of the previous year ; Wellington, L 319.330, as against L 385.643; Lyttelton, L 327,332, as against L 347.441; Dunedin, L 487.845, compared with L 582,135. The exports during the quarter amounted to L 1.026,658,.026,658, as compared with L 1,032,639 in the quarter of 1885. The figures for the chief ports' were Auckland, L 173.294, as compared with L 207.332 ; Wellington, L 214.317, as against L 188.162 ; Lyttelton, L 327.181, as against L 298,945 ; and Dunedin, L 166.809, as compared with L 186,528. The quantity of gold exported during last qnar« ter was 60,2960z, valued at £235,871. In the corresponding quarter of 1885 it was 59,313 ounces, valued at L 236,860.
