THE GRAND ANNUAL SHOW Odder the Auspices and Directions ol the WAIRARAPA & EAST COAST PASTORAL AND AGRICULTURAL SOCIETY Will be held on the SOCIETY’S SHOW GROUNDS. CARTERTON, ON WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 8,1886. THE “SHOW Will include Horses, Cuttle. Sheep, Pigs. Implemeats, Farm and Dairy Produce, Vehicles and Industrial Exhibits. The Society will, as in previous years, offer about fifty Gold and Silver Medals, as well as cash prizes in eacn of the above stated sections ol Exhibits, and in addition hereto a large number of Valuable Special Prizes in cash and m plate have been promised, bringing the total amount fully up to the average of the last three years. Winners of medals will have the option cf taking iu heu thereof £X cash for Silver Medals, and £2 for Gold Medals. A Leaping Match, a Shearing Match, and a trial of Sheep Dogs will take place during the afternoon. Programmes and Prize Lists tfrrioe full information as to conditions of entry, regulations of judging and and all other details, are now being prepared, and will be published and circulated shortly. Uassay, Esq, Timaru; sin old Knettingly, by Scudd; dam Tournament RAPID ROAN is out of the trotting mare Fidget, imported by James Stark, Esq., from Tasmania. RAPID ROAN is brother to the famous trotting mare Nelly. RAPID ROAN has only been shown fire times, and has taken two licit and three second prizes. He is a very fast trctter; has firstclass action, and a splendid temper. RAPID ROAN stood in Timaru and Temnka districts, for five years; and hue left the best roadsters and carriage horses in South Canterbury. Terms, £3 10s single mare; groomage fee, 6s. Z.S. B.), bred by Wm Boag, Ksq., Fendalton, near Christchurch, out of his famous prize mare Grace Darling (36), by Prince of Kilbride, imported (662*) Grace Darling by Prince Charlie, imported (1 and 626*). Grace Darling was the best mare that ever steed in New Zealand. She has been first and Champion at Christchurch many times, beating the great Maggie Craig, Champion of Scotland. She was first at Dunedin in her class and Champion of the yard, in fact her career in the ring is unprecedented.

The great point in bone breeding is to hare a sire connected with good families of undoubted obarsoter. In the one oeee the stock will be uniformly good, while in the other oeee iediriduals may surpass, but lbs general character of the stock anil be inferior and disappointing.
