Melbourne, September 29, Communications are passing between the Governments of New South Wales and Victoria with a view to the prevention of the threatened increase of the cable tariff between Australia and New Zealand. The Victorian Government, it is uuderstood, favors a general contribution by the colonies to all the Australian cables on the basis of populatiou, Mr Warren, Superintendent of the Eastern Extension Telegraph Company at Low Heads, Tasmania, has wired to the London office of the Company, suggesting that the proposed increase of tariff be postponed for one mouth, to allow of farther negotiations.
