The Conference of Stock Inspectors.
A conference of Colonial Stock Inspectors is about to be held at Sydney. It will be attended on behalf of New Zealand by most capable representatives, in the persons of Hon W. S. Peter, M.L.C., mid Mr J. D. Lance M.H.B. The former is well known as one of the foremost authorities in the colony upon all subjects connected with live stock. Mr Lance, besides being a large sheep owner, has also especial fitness for the position in that he is Chairman of the New Zealand Woolgrowers’ Association, and of the Amnri Sheepfarmers’ Association, and in those capacities has shown energy and sound judgment in grappling with the evils which beset the stockowner. Some difficulty has been found in tbe way of sending one of our Stock Inspectors to tbe Conference, as the rabbit pest is being proved to exist, beyond the worse forebodings, and the Inspectors are bnsily engaged in devising and carrying out repressive measures. The attendance of an experienced Inspector from New Zealand is very desirable, and it is to be hoped that the Government, who are alive to the importance of the questions for consideration, will be able to arrange the necessary leave of absence to a gdbd man.
