GREYTOWN— WEDNESDAY

(Before H. A. Stratford, Esq-, RM )

John Ryan was aued for the sum of £64 14s for maintenance of his three children. Kate, Mary and Thomas, who are inmates of the Industrial Schools at Wellington and Nelson (the 2 former being in Wellington) Defendant, who pLaded that he had no means, was informed by the Bench that judgment would he given against him and that be could be brought up by the Constable at any time when he had meaus, and if the money was not paid he (defendant) could be committed to gaol. Peter Peterson, a Dane, was charged with having no visible means of support. Constable Eccleton said lor three weeks prisoner bad done no work, and went about among settlers and frightened the females when the men were away. Prisoner wss discharged with a caution. The Bench gave prisoner 2s lor food, with a caution not to spend the money in drink. A man named Carroll, with a number of aliases, was obargedgwith being illegally on the premises of the Rev Mr Ward, on the night of 16th inst.

Constable Eccleton deposed that he found the prisoner on that occasion in the coach bonse, and Mrs Ward informed him that prisoner had no right to be there. Sentenced to one month’s imprisonment in Wellington gaol. Josiah Abbot was fined 10s and costs for driving a horse with sore shoulders.

H. W, Eempton was fined the same amount for the same offence.

William Carroll alias Livingstone, alias Stanley, Smith, Conden, and Psaroe, who, it will be remembered, was acquitted on a charge of alleged larceny at last criminal sittings of the Supreme Court, was charged with larceny of a Mackintosh coat, value £2, and a pair of glovss value 3s 6i, from Hammsrieh's Hotel. Prisoner was committed for trial.
