The correspondence inwards included a letter from Mr John Dalton, re Cabbage Tree Flat Road, ami from ratepayers in the Fcatherslou road aud town district, asking for a road to he opened through Mr Phsrszyn's property. Mr H. H. Jackson attenled the Board in respect to work ou the road near his woolshed, treasurer's intro ST. The amount to credit of ordinary account (including rent of toll gate) at the Bank of New Zealand to date is LIU'. LOs 2d. And to credit of imprest account LIGs 12s Gd. The receipts for the month have been— Rent of toll gate, L2l 15s 10J ; deposits on contract, LlO ; Ranger’s foes, Ills; general rates. L 677 11s. The financial position of each sub district is shown as follows against which to-day'a payments have to be placed ; No 1, credit, LI9I 12s 2d ; No 2, L 272 Is lOd ; No 3, L7B 17s (id ; No 4, L 59 11s 6d ; N05.L154 7s 8d; No 0, L2ll 111 Sd ; No 7. LIG6 5s 5d ; No 8, L 383 IDs 7d. The balances do not include rales on Crown and Native Lands ia tbe respective sub-districts. CABBAGE TREE FLAT ROAD. Mr John Barton, of White Rook station, attended on the Board, and stated that he had a conversation with Mr Eiddiford that morning at Featberston, re tbe road across Cabbage Tree Flat. Mr Barton informed the Board that Mr Riddiford did not object to giving a road from Wakapnna to the Coast, but if tbe deviation was persisted in from Pine Bush Corner to Burney Creek, he should claim compensation lor three miles ol road in that direction. Mr Harris thought Mr Riddiford would not have objected to any part of the road if be had been consulted in the first instance. Mr Dowman thought that if Mr Riddiford had been applied to by the Beard be would have seen his way clear to have acceded to tbe Board’s views, but the ground bad been broken witbont bis sanction. Mr Barton, in answer to Mr Dowman, said that there is no other practical road in that district but the one aeroaa Cabbage Tree Flat. Mr Riddiford’s objection was to the point above Pine Rush Corner ; he would not raise any objection from Pine Bush Corner down to the Coast. It was resolved, on the proposition of Mr Matthews, seconded by Mr Harris, that Messrs Harris, McDougull and the mover bo a deputation to confer with Mr Riddiford at Featberston on 1 Saturday week (21st),, at 11 a m., aud that Mr Barton be asked to attend. TRAMWAY Mr Henderson’s application for a tramway to his mill at Morrison’s Bush, was granted (herse power only), subject to conditions ol ticeuse under the Act. NEW ROAD The application of several ratepayers asking to have a road open from the Lower Valley Road to the Main Road to Greytown. through Mr Pharazyn’s property, was deferred until the next meeting of the Board. TKNIIERH. The following tenders were received lor falling and clearing 10G chains ol road to Cross Creek. Burgess Brothers falling 1 chain wide, and clearing 30 feet wide, 12s per chain ; falling and clearing half a chain wide, I 0« per chain ; (the latter tender half chain at 10s accepted). Goldsmith 2‘Js and 27s 3d ; W. Harriugtoa 17s 6d and 15s ;C. Morris, 27s and 25a ; F. Reed 15s and 12s, also tendered, W. Heaton’s contract. W. Heaton applied to have his deposit (L 0) returned, as he could not proceed with tliu work until the other coutract adjoining was completed. On tbe motion of Mr Elgar, seconded by Mr Mouckton, the matter was deferred until next meeting for Mr Bkeet to explain. notice of motion. It was proposed by Mr Elgar, and seconded by Mr Matthews, that Mr Bidwill’s motions be deferred until next meeting. Agreed to. Mr Dowman gave notice that be would more an amendment to same. I’ETHERICK S BRIDGE. Mr Matthews moved that twenty ohaias of road be taken through Mr John Martin’s property, near Petherick’s bridge, Waihenga, for the purposes of road traffic ; be said it would not be necessary in the meantime to interfere with the fence, but the road should be reserved in case 0 f necessity through the encroachments of the river. After some discussion HlO matter was deferred until next meeting. Mr Matthews moved and Mr Elgar seconded, that Mr Dowman bo appointed to ask Mr Marlin to statu upon what terms Mr Martin would allow a road through his property at that point. MARTIN BOROUGH TO GLADSTONE ROAD. Mr Mouckton asked the views of the Board as to the ro.au by Mr Wall’s place at River side near M ntinl...rough, whether it was the old provincial road that was required to be made goon, 01 whether the through road was required. Mr Dow man said tout bo thought all Mr Wall wanted was the load to he made good between iiis place and Manii,borough. After some discussion the Board appeared to think that the through road to Gladstone, wub not ut preheat urgently required. MItChI.LAHEOUH. Mr Elgar permit-sion to get a right of road through Mr Nieoi’s and Mr l/tcena’s property, South Foatherstou. Mr Dowman asked for five ehah s of work to be done (formation) from Whaugaroa River to Martinborough. Graded. The Clerk produced a copy of the oiigiual letter wiilten to Mr C. liatris by the Board; re fencing at his property. Resolved that the Board invite tenders for 66 chains wire fencing at Ototura. Mr Elgar asked that the Overseer go over, Jackson's road with a v.ew to have specifications for work drawn up. Agreed to. Mr Matthews moved that a map be procured by the Clerk, and all the legs! roads he defined iheieou, by Mr Bkeet. Agreed to. Mr Matthews amvid that the Cleik be instructed to obtain a safe at a cost of not exceeding £ls. Seconded by Mr Elgar and agreed to.
