WAIRARAPA y. WELLINGTON.

This match was played at the Newtown Park, Wellington, on Saturday, before a vast concourse of spectators. At about 330 p.m. when the gams commenced there must have been quite 1800 people on the ground and the greatest interest was taken by the onlookers in the event- A large number of friends of football from all parts of the Wairarapa proceeded to Wellington by the excursion train in the morning and the cries of “ go it green " (the Wairarapa Union color) were almost as numerous a* the *■ well done blacks ’’ the cries used by the partisans of the Wellington team. Anyhow the utmost good humor prevailed, and when a Wairarapa man showed some good play he was cheered as lustily by the friends of ths Wellington man as by his own adherents. Wellington having won the toss the gams commenced by Cooper kicking off toward the Greytown (eastern) side. C. Ferry adroitly caught the ball and returned with much advantage to bis side, a scrimmage then ensued and the Wellington men worked the ball well through, Roberts getting a good kick which was promptly returned, and C. Beard was well amongst the play and brought Roberts down very promptly. Wairarapa was now playing well forward, when Merlet took possession but did not get away and was worked out of bounds. Storey forced through the Green and ran out. After tha next throw in, C. Beard went through well and the Wairarapa men were playing a grand forward game, W. Perry making some good kicking, and J. Perry, A. Udy shewing up well lor their aide. O. Udy next made a rash and the play at this stage was very quick, and B. Kemble secured a mark, and next kicked over the line ; at the throw in, Welch caught the ball, in the return Roberts, fer Wellington got a mark, the ball was next played out, Hounslow fWairarapa) showing some good forward work. Thompson made a good rush, bat the Wellington men managed to get on the off side and were brought bark when tbey were working well down. Roberts was for a short time in command and passed well to Merlet, who made a good screw kick, E. Udy following up with a clever kick into touch, and soon alter Wairarapa were forced down. After the next throw in Wairarapa worked the ball well out of the scrim and Stock returned the kick from W. Perry. W. Perry then dribbled well forward, when Williams relieved him of his charge aod passed well to Roberts. Thompson punted well to King when E. Udy intercepted. Joe Perry was then foully collared by King. King afterwards shewed some good play and a grand passing rash was then made by the Wellington men, bat C. Perry took charge and drop kicked into touch and soon after Jee Perry did likewise, J. Beard nearly got away next, but Thompson punted out without any advantage. Hounslow was playing a very .hard game and collaring his men well, but the Wellington men vjere more at home with the passing, and Roberts mads a good pass. Joe Ferry relieved him and made what wonld have been a vary material rush, but owing to the greasy stats of the ground hs slipped just at the momentus period. C. Udy and C. Beard next did some goor dribbling, and Wairarapa now began te show themselves dangerous, when Pearce got an indifferent kick, resulting in Roberts getting a mark from a knock on. Tairoa, Ellison and Roberts now did some good work lor thsir side and made considerable ground, but C. Beard now became a formidable obstruction and made matters look rather marry for ths " Greens," Kemble following up with a grand kick. Williams took ths ball on the off side, and was called back. Kembie was next arrested by Williams. Kemble waa now mnoh applauded by the public for bis plucky work and very justly so. The game was kept well in the centre of the ground until Hounslow commenced to dribble in a strong and determined manner, and in this he was well supported by his confreres. This was not relished by Wellington, who in tarn tried a good dribbling rash, beaded by Roberts, who passed to MeCansland, and vice versa, when Kemble interfered and passed to Joe Perry, who kicked well forward, when " off side," by the Wellington men, was called. C. Perry did some gsod punting, until Thompson and Roberts had a turn, and, knowing the art of passing, they made the most of it. C. Parry then got a dribble on and he was making good progress when MeCansland stopped him and shewed some good panting ; he was in turn stopped by Kemble, and the ball was well taken from the line by J. Perry, Taiaros did a good pass to Pearce. Joe Perry then got a kick on and made much ground until Merlet made a punt, and with a supreme passing rush got a try for Wellington. Pearce took the kick bat failed to iucrease the score. C. Ferry then kicked off, Merlet catching and dropping it well forward by a lift from his toe. Half time was then called.

After the spell, tbs sides basing been changed, C. Terry kicked oil ; A. Udy took the ball rather weakly. King collaring him and passing to Williams. The game was now in the Wairarapa twenty live, and tbe conntry team was forced down ; at this juncture Kemble showed up well. MoCausland next made a pass to King, but Kemble interrupted and got a mark for Wairarapa. C. and W. Peny were doing some good work after this, but Green then got tbe best of next rush, in which lioberts, following up, was collared by G. Fait brother. W. Perry dribbled well out of touch, and G. beard had a turn. Just as the ball was getting in dangerous proximity to tbe Wellington’s quarters, Thompson collared Joe Peny, and then Taiaroa made a good dart forward. Cooper made a good run ; A!diet then almost ran in afterwards with the leather, and Thompson made a a try from a pass ftom Roberts. The ball was then taken on the line by Ewen. King made a run which resulted in a force down. Wairarapa then did some lair passing nntil Thompson " legged it a bit, and C Perry next had a say. W Perry tried to ran but was not well backed up ; Wairarapv now got a mark from a knock on. King next kicked out of touch. Wellington got again on the off side. A Udy took the ball out of the next scrimmage Kemble then made a good rash, and E Udy a drop kick, and the ball wee then in the Wellington twenty five. Taiaroa had to part to Kemble and Wellington waa next forced down for the first time by Wairarapa. B Udy fell again ; Kemble passed off side to W Perry, who passed to his brotbsr, Joe. A Udy mads a good pick np and a ran. 0. Perry kicked out of touch. After the throw in Green bad a turn, Kem ble superseding him and doing a drib* bling rash. Ellison touebed down ; then bo secured another try for Wellington ; be took the kick, and sooa after “ No Side" waa called. The game, which was well contested, thus terminated ia favor of Wellington by six points to nil. The Wairarapa team baveno eauso to be ashamed ot their beating. If they will place their backs eo the front next time and Perry fall back, they may retrieve their laurels. Mr Wickerson waa umpire for Waira> rapa and J. T. Dnmbell for Wellington. Mr Booaldson acted as referee, Messrs Cooper and W Perry captained the Wellington and Wairarapa teams respectively.
