Mr Bunny and the Census.
To the Editor of the Standard.
Sir, —It seems a great pity that tbe subeditor of tbe Standard, (whoever that individual may be) cannot stick to the truth, instead of misrepresenting facts. In a subleader in this day’s issue, be cannot let tbe opportunity elip of having a dig at bis friend Mr H. Bonny. In his remarks in that article be credits Mr Banuy, in compiling tbe census this year, of an excess of expenditure over tbe lost of £126. and hinting that he (Mr Bunny), had made a good haul, viz , put that amount into his own pocket; whereby, by bia own showing tbe amounts respectively were—Mr Wsrdell, £230 last; Mr Bunny, £256 this ; difference, £26. The above shows the animus. Comment is unnecessary. I am, &0.. Feathebstomian.
Featberston, July 28, 1886. [With a correspondent’s letter tbe para* graph referring to tbe census was received from a Wellington correspondent and wae put under a cross beating by one of tbe staff. Tbe proprietor of this journal was laid np at home with a bad cold and saw nothing of the paragraph until the paper was published and left at bis residence. Had he seen the M.S. it would not have appeared. The proprietor desires to express his regret to Mr Bunny for tbe uncalled for comments. The hatchet was buried long since.]
