Winter Entertainments.

Heavy elonda with a sprinkling of rain in the early part of Monday evening bad the •fleet of hindering many persona from attend, ing the entertainment at the Town Hall on that evening, bat notwithstanding this every ■eat was comfortably filled and the pro* gramme, arranged by the Rev J. Ward and Mr W. C. Nation, was carried through, with two or three exceptions, successfully. During the evening Mr Nation apologlstd for the absence of those whose names were down to take part, who lived out of Greytown and bad been hindered through unknown causes. The piano dnet “ Mazurka dea Trainean,” played by the Misses B. and M. McMaater brought them a good round of applause. Mr B. A. Campbell’s reading “ The Corfew Bell” wa« given with good dramatic effect. The vocal dnet •• McCarthy’s Grave,” by the Miasea M. and E. Nation was anng very nicely. “ The Death of Nelson ” was snng with good effect, by Mr Gamble and the encore be obtained was well deserved. The piano solo “ En Roate” by Miss F. Wood, a young performer, was played with mnch taste. Mrs Cnfl sang very sweetly ” The Lonely Harp,” and was loudly encored. The dnet “ Flow on Ihon Shining River,” by Mrs Ward and Mr Gamble was good, sod gained an encore. Miss Bollard was also eneored for her song •’ Dreaming of Home and of Mother.” The trio " Ye Shepherds Tell Me,” by Messrs Gamble, Gray, and Black was one of the best pieces of part mnsic that we have heard snng daring the season’s enteitaiaments, and it was rapturously encored. The next item was a piano dnet The Greek Pirates’ Mareh ” played in good style by Misses M. and E. Nation. “ The Bad Boy's Cure for His Pa,” was the title of Mr W. 0. Nation's reading which was mnch relished by the audience. The programme concluded with tbat old song •• Darling Nelly Gray.” snng by Mr W. Nation, the cborna being taken up by Messrs Black, W. C. Nation, and Cox and three instruments in addition to the piano accompaniment, Mr Varnham, cornet; Mr Barnard, elarionette ; and Mr Barratt, violin. The effort was warmly applanded. Juat before this piece was song Mr W. C. Nation thanked those present for the hearty support accorded to the local amateur vocalists daring the series of entertainments, sad said that tbs committee had given over next Monday night to the Amatenr Dramatic Company for an entertainment. Asthe vocalists bsd been so well patronised he hoped that on Mondayoextthesmsteur dramatists would have a hamper house also.
