Gun Club.

This club held its opening meeting at Mr B. Kimberley's farm, near Greytown, on Saturday. Tbe place was admirably suited for tbe purpose, and nearly all the prominent sportsmen in the district were present. The day was fine aud tbe shooting remarkably good. The only drawbaak to the proceedings was tbe limited supply of pigeons. The committee had need every exertion to obtain a good supply, but were disappointed in several directions, consequently could only arrange one five-bird match, the second match being a one bird match. Several dummy matches were also shot off, and the competitors appeared to thoroughly enjoy (he sport. The scores on the first match were as follows : Birds. Total. T. Grace, 01010 2 E. H. Cotter, 1000, retired .. .. 1 In the first round Mr Scale shot his first bird at tbe first pull; Mr T. Grace also hit his bird, but it fell out of bounds. Mr M. Grace made an excellent shot with his second barrell; so also Mr T. Ingley, which indeed' be followed np throughout the match, firing very steadily and with true aim. Mr Tancred knocked his bird over with the first shot very cleanly. In the second round Mr T. Grace made a grand killing shot with his first pall, the bird was a strong one on tbe wing. Mr N. Grace shortly after made s similar clean shot. Mr Scale shot his bird at the second pull, and so also did Mr Tancred, bat his bird fell out of bounds. Mr Tancred made some excellent shooting, but was very unlucky with his birds; some rose very badly and others got away wounded. In the third round Mr E. Vennell made a pretty shot with bis first pull; his was a good display of skill. In tbe fourth round Mr T. Graee killed his bird with bis second barrel. Mr E. Buckir dga made a good hit with bis fiirst pull, so did Mr Scale, but his bird fell beyond the boundary. Ultimately Messrs Scale, N. Grace, aud T. Ingley having fired off the tie aud each having shot his bird, arranged to share the prize to save birds for the next match. Tbe next match brought out seven competitors, Messrs P. Cotter, N. Grace, P. F. Tancred, W. Seale. E. Vennell, T. Grace aud T. Ingley, aud Messrs E. Vennell and N. Grace were the winners, having agreed to divide on the tie. The third match was won by MrTanoted, Mr P. Cotter won the fourth, and Mr T*nored tbe last, and then the company, which was a thorough representative one, adjourned to the cottage, where a meeting was held, Mr M. Grace, the. Vice-President, in tbe chair. Several propositions in the interests of tbe Club were made and it was resolved, on the motion of Mr Tancred, That the Committee be asked to provide (or monthly meetings to be held alternately at the several towns in the Lower Valley where members reside. It was also resolved to recommend the Committee to provide glass balls for occasional use when birds were scarce. There is one feature connected with the day’s sport, that is well worthy of notice, that is the splendid reception the committee provided (or their guests. The catering was left in the able hands of Mr and Mrs Arthur Jones of tbe Foresters’ Arms Hotel, who provided handsomely and it is needless to say (hat tbe guests did their part well also. The healths of tbe President, Vice-President, Treasurer and Host (Mr B. Kimberley), the Secretary, Committee, Ac., were all drank, and some neat and happy speeches were made, and then tbe company dispersed, with a unanimity of feeling as to having spent a very enjoyable day. It is probable that a large match of the club may be held on the race coarse, Greytown. on November lltb, after tbe spring race meeting.
