Taratahi-Carterton Road Board.
The ordinary monthly meeting of the above Board was held on Saturday. Present— Messrs B. Boys (Chairman), W. Booth, H. Braithwaite, H. R. Bunny, James Stevens, E. W. Dorset, N. Grace, W. Parker aud J. Eayner. The minutes of last meetiug were read and confirmed. Correspondence—From audit office notifying that the bank book would be returued as soon as audited. From Masterton Road Board, asking that Board to join with them in trying to get a more favorable term for the borrowing and paying off the loans ; also from East County Council re Local Bodies. Mr W. Booth moved and Mr H. R. Bunny seconded that this Board advance L4OO to the West County Council for ihe GladstoneWainuioru Road.
The Property Tax Commissioner asked for the Waiohine River rate roll. Mr W. Udy waited on the Board in ref ence to the swamp road and the bridge the same, aud presented a list of subscribers to the same to the amount of Lls, and stated that ho had the promise of 13,000 feet of timber towards the bridge. Mr Udy also promised to give eight feet of land for the purpose of widening the road. It was moved by Mr Booth, seconded by Mr Braithwaite, That tenders be called for the said work.
11l the matter of the proposed drain, it was left in the hands of the Warden and Mr Udy. Mr Francis waited on the Board in reference to a transfer of some land which was made some years ago for a road, and was informed that no transfer bad been made. He urged upon the Board to get it done, as it was of considerable importance to the resi« dents of that Ward. After some discussion, it was resolved that the Warden for No. 1 Ward see to it and report at the next meeting. Mr Francis next asked about the complaint which bad been made about his filling in the water table, and he informed the Board that he had been authoaised to do so some years ngo, and pointed out that there was a culvert required, but the Warden for No. 2 Ward did not agree to his views on the matter, and the matter was left in the hands of Messrs H. R, Bunny, and E. Dorset to report on at the next meeting. Mr W. Francis asked that the sum of £5 be spent ia nutting a track through section 363. The request was granted, the work to be done under the supervision of Mr Francis. Mr W. Booth moved, and Mr Parker seconded, that the constable be authorised to impound nil cattle straying on the district roads. Carried. Mr Cheshire complained about the laud in bis occupation being flooded from the overflow of water from the road dram. Mr Parker explained the matter to the Board, and the matter was left to him to deal with. There was only one tender for the work in No. 1 Ward, and the Warden considered that the price asked was too much. It was resolved to call for fresh tenders. Mr Stevens got permission to employ a man to rake in the ruts on Moffatt’s line, and also to get the wires strained up on the swing bridge. Some accounts were passed for payment, and this closed the business. A committee meeting was held at the close of the other business, when a bonus of £25 was granted to Mr Wo ters for his extra services rendered to the Board,
