Presentation to Mr. James Donald.
The presentation of a silver inkstand, with the following address, was made ou Saturday last, at Featherston, by tho members of the Road Board, to Mr J as. Donald, the late Chairman of the Board. “ Featherston, May, 1886, “ James Donald, Esq. “ We, the undersigned members of the Featherston Road Board feel that wo cannot allow you to retire from amongst us after so many years of service to tho district and tho ward you have so long represented, without expressing our deep sense of your untiring zeal in all matters affecting the Board. We desire to record our entire thanks for the many obligatious wo, as a Board, owe to your patience and forbearance in matters which have come before us during tho long period you held tic ]>ositiou of chairman, and that you, from your experience, have been able to assist us with. We ask you to accept the accompanying present as a small token of our esteem, and express the hope that you may agaiu occupy a seat ou the Board. Wishing yourself and Mrs Donald and family continned health and prosperity, we remain, yours sincerely, (lime follow the names of the members of the Board)." The address was handsomely illuminated and very neatly engrossed on vellum, executed hv Mr W. Hock, clerk to the Road Board.' Several members of the Board compliment.d Mr Dock ou the excellence of the work, being evidently surprised to find such talciu in the district. The present, a very neat and valuable solid silver inkstand and fittings, was much admired by the members of the Board and others who ins|)ccted it. and will no doubt be a fitting memento to Mr Donald and his family of the many j oars of labor and exertion he has spent in tho service of the Featherston Hoad District. Mr Donald was, unfortunately, absent from Featherston on Saturday, but Mr Matthews undertook to convey the testimonial and expressions of respect and good wishes from the Board to tueir late chairman.
