A Maori woman was burned to death in ■ whareat Kirikiri, Auckland. A boy named Archibald Cook, aged 10, was drowned while playing at Freeman's Day, Auckland. Messrs AV. Cross, T.R. Freer. C. G. Good, \V M. Kebbell, and R Marsh, have been duly elected Wardens of the Alfredton Road District. The Hon, John Bryce was accorded ■ most enthusiastic reception at Wanganui on Wednesday and entertained at a banquet in the evening. It is estimated that the bootmakers' strike at Auckland has cost the contastatt lio.oco up to the present time. The Havelock Hotel, at Riverton, Invert cargill, has been burned down.
