Messrs t\ood and \\yett were declared duly elected. A matter of considerable interest to many of our readers (says the Postl was considered by the Land Board. The Chief Commissioner (Mr Merchant) proposed that the Board should purchase land from Europeans and others for the purpose of forming village settlements under section 16H of the Land Act. In the course of the discussion which ensued, Mr M'Cardle suggested that suitable Hocks of land available for purchase should Le visited by those members of the Board re .-iding nearest to them. That gentleman, together with Messes Beetham, Fitzlierbert, and Heese warmly approved the proposal of the Chief Commissioner, and it was unanimously resolved that the latter should prepare a list of blocks of land which can be purchased by the Board. It was also decided, on the motion of Mr iieese, to acquire and set apart sections contiguous to roads so as to encourage a desire for settlement amongst the men employed on the public thoroughfares.
