The Native Minister and the Maori King.
Mr Ballance has been interviewing old “ King Tawbiao ” in the Waikato, and they have had a talk. Not much seems to hav 0 come of the talk. Mr Ballance wanted “ the old man ” to become “ an Honorable ” by getting called to the Legislative Council. Tawbiao, however, gave an evasive reply, and said the Council be wanted was one composed ol Native chiefs, this same as that held in former years at Kohinmrama. That suggestion is of course impracticable in those modern days. Tawbiao must now he getting gradually to perceive that his kingly position is mostly a sham, and that he will need to submit to the new order of things.
