From the Public Works Department re survey of Dalefield road, and submitting that a considerable expense would be involved in altering the present route. Mr Braithwaite moved that tenders be called for about 20 chains of metalling in his ward. Agreed to. Mr Gallon said he would like the clerk to write to the solicitors to obtain their opinion as to whether the Board is compelled to fence on Phillips’ Road, Matarawa. The clerk said that the owner of the land demanded a fence to the stipulations, so H
would not be necessary '<3 get legal advice in the matter. \
Mr Gallon remarked that the property was not fenced when the road wts made through. Mr Booth said that did not matter if the Grown grant'was matured when the road was Mr Gallon said about two mi’es of feneb g would be required ; about one mile each side. The road he said was perfectly level; he feared, in the meantime, that the owner of the property would not remain satisfied. Mr Morgan, with two other residents, attended as a deputation to ask the Board to proceed at once with some draining and metalling on the Belvedere road. Mr Moreen said that the settlers had recently completed a bridge of 25 feet span, and had found heavy timber, &o. They had spent also Ll4, and next winter if the road was not widened and repaired the settlers there would bo entirely locked in. He himself had had two capsizes, the last time being laid up in consequence for two months He would have sent in the doctor’s account to the Board, if he thought they would entertain the defrayment of the same. (Laughter). Seriously speaking, he would urge that the bank on this road be out away so that they could utilise the bridge, as there was sufficient metal in the bank to do a great portion of tbe work.
Mr Booth said be would ask the Board to authorise him to spend LSO on this work. Ha reminded Mr Morgan that Bambury’s line also required attention at times, and Belvedere road had received already a fait share of the expenditure. However, the settlers’ interests must be considered if practicable. He would move that the Warden of No. 6 Ward be authorised to spend LSO for metalling, 40., on Belvidere road. Agreed to. Mr Reynolds moved that Messrs Reeding and Deel be requested to proceed with their contract as quickly as possible as all tbe material was new ready to hand. Agreed to.
