THE WELLINGTON RACING CLUB SPRING MEETING. The Spring Meeting of the Wellington Racing Club took place on Saturday at the Hutt under exceptionally favorable circumstances as regards weather, but the attendance was not large. Flying Stakes Handicap, of C 5 so vs; Three quarters of a mile. Mr P. P. Tancred’s oh m Revoke, 3yrs 7st 91b (Backeridge) .. .. .. 1 Mr W. lorns’ br f Rumour, 3yrs, 7st 101b 2 Mr P. Martin’s oh m Minerva, 6yrs, Bst 3 For the Flying Stakes Pasha and Dynamite were scratched. Normanby, Lifebuoy, and Serpent also started. Won by a neck. Hurdle Handicap, of 80 sovs ; second horse to receive 10 sovs from the stakes. About two miles aud a-half. Mr Humphrey’s br g The Druid, 6yrs, lOat 121b 1 Mr P. B. Gentry’s blk g Erebus. 6yrs, list 71b 2 Hutt Park Spring Handicap, of 200 sovs; 1 mile and a half. Mr W. lorns’ Pasha, 4yrs, Bst 131b .. 1 Mr H. Redwood’s Clogs, 4yrs, 7st 51b .. 2 Mr P. F. Tanored’s Administrator, 6yrs, 9st 21b 3 Also started—Speculation Set 61b, Salvage 7st 121b, The Poet 7st 51b, Fay 7st. Time, 2min 41|sec. Grand Stand Handicap, of 80 sovs. One mile and a quarter. Mr W. lorns’ br f Rumour, 3 yrs, 7st Blb 1 Mr J. Leopold's b hj Grand Duke, 4 yrs 7st 51b 2 Mr H. Redwood’s br hj Capsize, 4 yrs, 6st 101b : 3 Also started—Normanby (7st 91b) and Administrator (9at 51b). Won pretty easily by half a length. Time, 2min 15sec.
SECOND DAY. The races on Saturday were shorn of rt good deal of their interest by the fact that all the best horses in the principal race were scratched the night before on the appearance of the weights. Mr Evett’s handicapping on this occasion certainly failed to give the satisfaction which it usually does.
