Mr Wilkie in Reply.
To the Editor of the Standard. Sib,—l have only to-day seen MrH. Gray’s reply to my letter (having been absent from home for a fortnight). I adhere to every item in my first statement. Mr Gray says he showed me the receipts and wished to arrange the matter. This is untrue, what he did was to have a piece of paper in his hand as he stood on the road at a distance of six or eight feet and asked if I knew my own writing. He would not permit me to read it nor did he make any offer, but told me I might do what I iiked ; from which I iufered that he had found some minimality through which he expected to gain the case. His reflections on my honesty I do not accept, I return them. This ca=e involves two unlikely events : Ist, that lor anyone would sue for £3 out of £'4 (giving credit for £1), when I knew lie had receipts to prove payment of £2. 2nd. that Mr Gray being only a yearly tenant should pay une-haif years rent when about four months in occupation. I am, dc., Joss WILEIE. Gieytcwn, October 7th, 18s5.
