Carterton Library.

The general annual meeting of the sub scribcrs was held at the Institute last Tuesday night for the purpose of electing a committee, &0., for the ensuing year. Mr W. Booth was voted to the chair, when the Secretary (Mr L. Wilson) road the minutes of the last meeting, and also the report and balance sheet for the last year, which showed that after paying all liabilities there was a credit balance at the bank of £34 and £l7 unpaid subscriptions to come. The Chairman congratulated the members on the healthy state of tbe library, for, having been able to add 330 new books to the library during the past year, besides paying Lls for having some 200 volumes rc-bound and stitched, there was still a good balance to credit. The report and balance sheet was adopted. Mr W. 0. Buchanan, M.H.R., was re-elected President, and Messrs W. Booth, B. Boys, E. Samuel, L. Wilson, F.W. B. Seed, W. Downard, and .7. Picket a committee for tno ensuing year. At the meeting of the Committee, Mr W. Booth was elected Chairman, Mr L. Wilson Secretary and Treasurer, and Mr W. Parker Librarian at a salary of LlO per year. It was resolved that the sum of LSO be expended for new books, and that Messrs B. Boys, E. Samuel, L. Wilson, J. Picket and the Libarian form a sub-committee to prepare lists of the books to be sent for. Moved by Mr .7. Picket end seconded by Mr Wilson, that ail members who are twelve months in am ars with their subscriptions (after being notified of the fact) and do not pay up within three months shall be prohibited from taking any more hooks, and their names struck off the books. Some discussion took place on this motion but it was ultimately carried. A vote of thanks was passed to Mr Booth for his kindness in giving Punch’s papers to the library during the year.
