Land Board.

The ordinary fortnightly meeting c! the Land Board was held yesterday morning. A letter was read from the Alfreiitou Board, asking authority to divert deferred payment moneys from the blocks in which the amounts were raised in order to spend them on works in other blocks. Tho Board approved the proposed expenditure (£2fi,lss ( Jd;, and it was resolved to inform the Hoad Board if they would forward a general scheme o( road works proposed to bo undertaken with deferred payment thirds, the Laud Board would probably give thuir approval to expend deferred payment money* as they became duo half yearly. It was also decided to write to the local bodies to the same effect-

The question of leasing the reserve in Tokomaru block was mooted, and it was re solved to have the reserve cut up and laid off into village or town sections. A memo, from tho Under-Secretary of Grown Lands was road, stating that the circular as to deferred payment selectors not being allowed to obtain their grants, oven though they selected before 1881, had been cancelled.

In reference to a resolution passed by the Board on the 2drd December last as to special settlement regulations, it was resolved to write to the Government enquiring when the Minister of Lands would be in Wellington and able to receive a deputation appointed by the Board. A resolution was also passed protesting strongly against any dealings with the lauds in this district for special settlements taking place until the interview with the Minister by the Board. I he question of offering some more sections in the 40-Mile Bush was referred to.

Mr McCardle urged the Board to spend the money proposed to be spent on a road in Mangaoue in Pahiatua. and it was explained that the money had been diverted. The secretary was instructed to ascertain by whose authority the diversion had taken place. The Board were of opinion that there ueed be no urgency in offering this land for sale. It was farther decided that a plan be prepared for next meeting showing the scheme for throwing open the unsold sections in Mungaone on deferred payments and lease, with the proposed prices. It was agreed to again call the attention of the Government to a resolution of the Board in regard to increasing the survey staff. Mr M'Cardle moved that the Jtl2oo proposed to be spent on road works up the Tiraumea Biver be not so spent, but expended elsewhere as the Board might direct. Carried.
