Alleged Illicit Distillation Near Woodville.
SEVERAL ARRESTS. An illicit still has been discovered on the Otoia-Oparu Block, between Woodville and Manutahi. Michael Uourke, brewer, Harry Hughes, brewer’s assistant, George Beamish, ex-publican at Patea, and George Anderson, one of the whiskey makers, have been arrested. One Jessop, of illicit whiskymaking fame, will be a witness (or the prosecution in this instance. It is difficult to get very reliable inlormation, as the police and distillation officers are most reticent; but it is understood that distillation has been going on in some part of the district, variously stated'to be Kakaramea, Woodville, and Manutahi for the past eight or nine months, and that a large number ol people were implicated.
