Taylor’s Bail Refused.
After the jury had returned their verdict, his Honor, the Chief Justice, said that as certain points had been reserved in the case for the decision of the Court of Appeal ho would defer passing sentence until that decision hud been given. He was not, how ever, prepared to lot the prisoner Tajdor out on bail, as he felt a doubt in his mind as to whether he (Taylor) would answer on a future day if called up for sentence. Mr Shaw, the counsel for Taylor, pled with great eloquence and in the most strenuous manner for the release of the prisoner on bail, but the judge was inexorable and decidedly refused to grant the request. Taylor was therefore removed to the Terrace Gaol, whore lie will remain pending the decision of the Court of Appeal, which sits in Juno. It is probable tha ! the remaining two charges against Taylor will not be proceeded with until the decision of the Court of Appeal has boon given on the points raised in the cases already tried, and in which Taylor has been convicted
Taylor’s last chance of escaping from justice is now gone, lie might have escaped between Tuesday and Friday, bur apparently Taylor thoughi that in any case, iio would be liber,,ied on bail until Cm sidings oi't'm Court of A ppeal were held.
