UPPER MOROA BLOCK.
The following letter with reference to this block is published for general information :
Provincial Secretary’s Office, ‘ Wellington, 13th Sept., 1867. Sie : —I have the honor to acknowledge the receipt of our letter of the 7th inst., in which you enquire “ whether the whole of the land? comprised within the boundaries of the Upper Moroa Block are open for selection by members of the Association; and in the event of any portions of such lands being 1 Native Reserves whether the boundaries of such Reserves have been properly defined,” In reply I beg to inform you that there are 6250 acres of this Block laid off in 50 acre lots, planned and now being pegged by Mr Kelleher, one of the Government Surveyors, and will probably be completed in the course of three months; but in consequence of the Natives claiming a larger quantity of land for reserves than that which has been allotted to them, the Government do not consider ■ it advisable to throw qpen any portion of the Block for sale until this dispute with the Natives is settled and the boundaries of their reserves properly defined. 1 am Sir, , ■ • , • Your obedient seevant, WILLIAM HICKSON, , . .
