PUNIU SHIELD MATCH
On Thursday evening last the Hairini team visited Tokanui Hospital in a shield competition match. The Hospital won by 50 games, 1764 points, to Hairini's 8 games, 1234 points. At the conclusion of the gatmes Mr Conn, on behalf of the Hospital thanked Hairini for the enjoyable evening spent, and although the Hospital had the majority of games, this really did not denote the true estimate of the games, many of the match games were won by one point. Mr K. Balme, on behalf of Hairini, thanked the Hospital for the evening's enjoyment, and also for the splendid supper provided, and hoped his club would be able to turn the tables when Tokanui visited Hairini.
The first round of competition matches have been played and Tokanui Hospital are, iso far, in the lead with 6 points, Te Mawhai 4 points, Hairini 2 points, and Kihikihi nil. A series of return matches will commence at the end of the month, and it is expected that greater enthusiasm will ensue, as each club is getting more practice.
FRONTIER ROAD V. ODDFELLOWS.
Some interesting contests took place when Oddfellows visited Frontier Road Club on Thursday evening. "The home team, proved a little too strong, eventually winning by 32 games to 10. The games wea'e played in true spoi'ting spirit, and dancing concluded an enjoyable evening.
