MODERN CAR DESIGN
LATEST MODEL INSPECTED. Something new in mutator car design certainly was seen in Te Awamutu last Tuesdav afternoon, when Mr Andrew Todd, of Todd Motors, Ltd., drove in from He,milton (en route to the Winter Show at Palmerison North) behind the wheel of the very latest De Soto tourer. When he pulled up in front of the premises of Advance Car.(s, Ltd., there was a very interested assemblage, members of which were keen to view the new model air-flow car. Resembling probably nothing- so much as a miniature tank or a glorified turtle in appearance, it soon removed those impressions when " tried out" in some of the streets of the borough, for it has great power and speed, nicely upholstered and well spirung. Peculiar features, of course, are the excessive stream-lining- of the body, and the g'eneral roominess of the interior, for the body is wide enough for three adults to isit comfortably in each seat. The rear wheels are almost completely covered, but so designed as to make replacement of a wheel a fairly easy task. The windshield is tilted at an angle of about 45deg. in keeping- with the stream-line effect, and so is the front of the radiator. The powerful engines aiue set neatly in place, and the body and chassis seem to be cast in one piece, giving resiliency with rigidity, and combining to make the acme of comfort and safety. Luggage storage space is near the petrol tank under and behind the rear seat, and the spare wheel is clamped to the sloping tonneau. The vehicle itself gives a suggestion of speed, compactness and attractiveness. Mr Todd made his car available for trial spina about the town for an hour or so, end then departed for Te Kuiti and New Plymouth, intending to reach the Taranaki capital that night, and go on to Palm.eirston North yesterday in time for the Show.
