ITEMS OF INTEREST. (Our Resident Representative.) The Old Girls' Basketball Club promoted a pleasing and most successful social in Turner's Hall on Thursday evening last.. The dance music was supplied by Hem era's Orchestra, and the Monte Carlo competition was won by Mr N. Bowyer and Misis F. Holmes. Musical and vocal items were rendered by Misses Margaret Kay and P. Dowd, and Mr Alex Cockbum. Mr George Goldthorpe functioned as the principal MJ.C. The residence of Mrs Cleland, Kio Kio, bore an aimated scene on Friday evening, when a gift evening was tendered to Miss A. Dempster in honour of her approaching marriage to Mr George Lissingbon (Kio Kio). Dancing, cards, ping pong and competitions whiled the happy hours away. The Otorohanga Girls' Basketball Club fielded a team against Ohaupo, at Ohaupo, on Saturday last, winning a well-contested match by 16 goals to 9. The Visitors ware generously enteiitained by the Ohaupo Club members. The Otorohanga branch of the Women's Division of the N.Z. Farmers' Union held its June meeting in the local Town Hall annexe, when the president, Mrs C. Irvine (Otewa.), conducted the proceedings, befone a good gathering of members. M,rs Irvine will attend a conference at Wellington early next month. A large number of Otonohanga district returned soldiers attended the special meeting, here, on Tuesday evening, and decided to strongly support remits from the Te Awamutu R.S.A., which will be forwarded to the Dominion Council for consideration. Messrs K. F. Maynard (Otewa) and W. R. Harty (Honikiwi) will attend the conference to be held at Te Awaimutu.
The Otorohanga Town Hall annexe was comfortably filled' on Tuesday evening- for the. installation of officers of the local Oddfellows' Lodge. The installing officer, was P.G. Bro. T. Hetet, D.G.0., of Te Kuiti, whilst P.G. Sister M;. J. Hunter and P.G.'s Bros. J. J. Walker, E. J. Moore and W. G. Pye assisted in the ceremonies. The officers installed were:— 1.P.N.G.. Sister Alvan England; N.G., Sister M. E. Pye; V.G., Bro. W, L. John; E.S., Bro. T. Melville; warden, Sister H. S. Holden. A generous supper followed the ceremonies, and visitors we/re present from Te Awamutu, Taranaki, Pio Pio, Kawhia, Te Kuiti, Cambridge and Hamilton. Ovler one hundred officers and members and visiting craftsfmen from other lodges took part. The dance that followed was an enjoyable one, the excellent music for which was provided by Miss Phyllis Rhodes and Mr Ken Liddy.
