;WAIPA DEFEATS TAUPIRI. '■•-The Waipa rep team that was sent to Taupiri on Wednesday to play the Taupiri rep team created some surprise locally by registering a comfortable victory, for it was believed Waipa could have put a stronger team in the field. However, performances speak for themselves, and the players engaged yesterday are deserving of: congratulation—and consideration.when further rep. teams are. chosen. Taupiri kicked off facing the sun, -but -soon lost a good opportunity, of scoring when, in a combined movement they had Waipa penned on-the back line. Smith was caught in possession and play was soon worked up field. Waipa took a tulrn at attack, and C. Craig forced his way over for a try, which B. Walker converted. Again Waipa attacked solidly,- the . forwards doing ,grand work,.and when the ball came out to the backs Broughton dashed over, evading Davies with a side-step that was clever. Again Walker converted. Taupiri forwards worked play to Waipa's line and in a scramble one of the forwards bustled over to score near the corner, but the kick failed. The second spell was not so exciting, but'Waipa were definitely superior, and, while Tanpiri landed only a penalty goal, the Waipas scored a converted try (by A. Jackson) and a penalty goal. Mr Twining was the referee.
