OLD MEETING HOUSE

TO BE RE-OPENED. At the recent Maori gathering held at Rukumoana Pa, Morrinsville, when the Maori King was present, it was decided to make these gatherings of Wiaikato Maoris at Morrinsville annual events. The purpose of this year’s gathering is to enable the new Maori King to officially reopen the meeting house which is termed the Maori Parliament House,” and which had been closed for the past 14 years following on the estrangement from the Government of the Maori leader, Tarapipi Taingakawa, son of the great chief Te Waharoa. Next year’s gathering will be held at Morrinsville in February, and Ratana has been invited to attend. As Ratana has not visited this district for 10 years or so, his visit would arouse great interest.
